Slaven Vujić. Personal literary reflections inspired by the works of J. R. R. Tolkien.

The moment of grace comes.

Unexpected and piercing, like a star through storm clouds. Something breaks the darkness. The story turns. The burden grows lighter, if only a little.

Then a question appears: what comes next?

Fantasy stories often end with a great reversal. The Ring is destroyed. The king is crowned. Evil is defeated. But Tolkien’s story continues after the victory.

Frodo comes home. The war is over. The wound remains.

Few people prepare us for that part: how to live with scars once the fire has gone out.

Light Does Not Erase Every Shadow

We want the light to put everything right.

We hope that the great emergence from darkness will remove the pain too. That after the turning point, we will become whole in the same way as before.

But some losses change the landscape of the soul.

Frodo is celebrated as a hero. He helped save the world. Yet the Shire is no longer a home where he can simply resume his old life. The memories weigh too heavily. Pain returns. His peace requires more than a celebration.

And so he sails across the sea.

That story allows me to acknowledge that we may grieve even after life has improved. That recovery can exist without being visible to everyone. That surviving need not mean restoring everything as it was, but moving towards something new.

The Gentle Work of Living Again

In this personal reflection, I understand eucatastrophe as a break in hopelessness, from which a slow and fragile task begins: learning to live again.

Tolkien gave Frodo no simple resolution. He could not forget or stop carrying what he had endured. He needed another kind of healing, which we might call peace, rest or space of his own.

In our lives too, some wounds remain. Alongside them, we can learn gentleness and become more sensitive to others’ pain. They can also bear witness to what we have survived.

Frodo’s sense that the Shire has been saved for others, but that he can no longer stay, resonates with anyone who has given everything to something and returned home changed.

One Hand for Sorrow, the Other for Hope

What, then, should we do after the turning point?

Walk slowly. Plant again. Carry sorrow in one hand and the capacity for wonder in the other.

In that, I recognise the heart of my writing: a modest return. An attempt to write, love and believe again, knowing that I may never be the same.

It is possible to carry memory and smile again. To keep our scars and build something beautiful.

We continue. We rebuild. The world deserves our effort even when it is far from perfect.

Life after the Light

If your light has come and your wounds still hurt, you need not declare your joy a failure.

You are living the other part of the story too: the long journey home, slow recovery, quiet strength.

That also belongs to the turning point: the life that grows after its flash of light.

When the Story Turns, Part Three: Tolkien, healing and learning to live with both light and wounds after the turning point.

[28,29,3
24,23,6
["post-18244","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-ad-sancta","category-duhovna-razmisljanja","category-promisljanja","tag-kad-se-prica-preokrene","tag-tolkien","tag-vjera-i-smisao
["GET
